William Birchfield

William Edward Birchfield, age 93, of Quincy, died on Saturday, September 13, 2025 in Sunset Home. He was born on December 30, 1931 in Quincy, IL the son of Oscar & Marie (Naylor) Birchfield. He married Mary Louise Doellman on December 27, 1954 in St. John Catholic Church. She survives. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bill was a machine tender at Celotex, retiring in 1994 after more than 40 years of service. Bill was of the Catholic Faith, a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Bill loved to fish with his friends and family. He liked to take care of his yard and garden and also putting puzzles together.

In addition to his wife, Bill is also survived by:
CHILDREN: Thomas Birchfield, Janice McArthur (David), Amy Willer (Rodney Brinkman) and Christina Brueck (Joshua).
DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Lisa Birchfield
GRANDCHILDREN: Jennifer Wood (Nathan), Thomas Birchfield, Jr. (Arren McCrystal), Brian Birchfield (Anna), Joey Birchfield (Michelle), Stephanie Gonzales (Bobby), Kim Sarzynski (Cyrille) and Kevin Birchfield (Casey); Christopher McArthur, Elaine Rhodes (Richard), and Joshua McArthur; Nicholas Willer (Shari); Megan White, Mason Birchfield (Kaitlyn McColez); Madison Brueck and Ian Brueck.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Josh Flores, Marisa Flores, Mason Hunt, Ethan Hunt, Nathan Wood, Maddy Dean, Ari Stewart, Tyler Birchfield; Mila Gonzales, Danilo Gonzales, Lucien Sarzynski, Amelie Sarzynski, Athena Shaw, Jaden Birchfield, and Evelyn Birchfield; Kaylee McArthur; Gabe White, Silas White, Aryanna McColez, Alexandria Birchfield, Jonah and Cole Willer.
Numerous other relatives and friends survive.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Marylynn Starkey and sons: John Birchfield in infancy and Martin Birchfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass at 11:00. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
