Wanda Lee Slough

Wanda Lee Slough, age 90, of Quincy died on Thursday, June 1, 2023, in Good Samaritan Home. Wanda was born on September 3, 1932, in Quincy a daughter of Thomas and Georgia (Pollard) Benjamin. Her parents passed away when she was young, and she was adopted and raised by Homer and Lewella Brown. Wanda married Duane Richard Slough on January 6, 1951, in Pocahontas, AR and in 2001 the year of the couple’s 50th Anniversary, they renewed their vows at the Church of St. Peter. Richard preceded her in death on December 11, 2017.

Wanda was Co-Owner and Vice-President of their business, Area Distributors, Inc. from 1963 until her retirement. She attended Quincy schools, beginning with Dewey Elementary, Quincy Senior High School and received her degree from Gem City Business College.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Wanda was also a member of the Elks Club and had played in bowling leagues for many years. She was an avid golfer; at one time she had a routine of playing at all four Quincy golf clubs on different days of the week. Wanda was a skilled pianist and soprano singer, in her younger years singing at weddings and in her church choir.

Wanda enjoyed traveling and loved playing slot machines. She always had a positive outlook and lived life to the fullest. Wanda was wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family sends their thanks to Wanda’s caregivers at Good Samaritan Home and Bickford, for the loving care she received from them.

Survivors include her children: Dennis (Carla) Slough; Kevin (Sharon) Slough all of Quincy; Kelle Slough of Gardner, KS and Scott (Diane) Slough of Tulsa, OK.

Grandchildren: Bryce Slough; Brooke (A.J.) Harrison; Morgan Slough; Monica Bumbry; Nate Slough; Erin (Erich) Gilmore; Lauren (Peter) Arntsen; Kelsey Slough; Makenzie Slough; Calla Brooke; Caitlin (Trent) Shores; Francesca Boewe and Tyler Boewe.

26 Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces, great nephews, and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a brother Albert Brown and his wife Carol; and a brother-in-law Dean Slough.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.

    My heart goes out for miss wanda.she was one of a kind her smile would light everyone who crossed her path .she was more than a pleasure to care for. I’m so glad to have been part of her journey in life. God bless her family and friends much love for you all

    What a kind soul to know and her husband Dick was too. Over 50 yrs I have known both from my Plaza days first and Pier days too.
    I hope they are together now, a great pair they made.
