Tommie Lee Benton, Sr., age 81, of Quincy, died on Thursday, August 27, 2026 in his home. He was born on May 4, 1945 in Cayce, MS, the son of Clint and Willie (Miles) Benton. He married Sterlene Boyd on August 13, 1966. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2021. Tommie went to Quincy Technical School. Over the years he worked at Electric Wheel, Colt Industries and then for the City of Quincy in the Sanitation Department until his retirement. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a deacon of the church until the time of his death. Tommie was also a Mason.

Our dad’s favorite hobbies was hunting, he was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also liked working on cars.

He leaves behind his beloved dogs: ‘Kreed’, ‘Low-Key’, and ‘Blue’

Tommie is survived by HIS CHILDREN: Gloria Benton, Tommie (Jessica) Benton, Jr., Jerolene Benton, Cynthia Benton and Terry Benton all of Quincy.
SIBLINGS: Larry Benton, Sr., Willie Mae Benton, Doria Sanders and Laverne Osborne.
GRANDCHILDREN: Timothy Reinberg, Tomeka McKenna (Tim), Nicole St. Clair, Tyrese Raymond and Tamera Raymond; Lakendra Charles, Leann Charles, Tevin Charles and Landon Benton; Armand Brown and Jazmin Harris.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Timia Reinberg, Mykel Reinberg, Kamayiah Reinberg, Talayla Reinberg, Agoddess Reinberg and Nyla Reinberg; Treyden Humphrey and Tre’nae Humphrey; Kaliya Ostrander, Harland Hall; Ivana Ostrander and Corey Ostrander, Jr.; Raya Vaughn and Naila Raymond; Mayson Raymond, Evelyn Townes, Liam Townes and Olivia Charles; and Lincoln Charles.
GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILD: Miley with an additional great-great grandchild to arrive in February.
Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law: Margaret Gunn, Don Walker, and Willie Walker (Melony).
Numerous other relatives including Ronette Leonard, Derrick Wade (Lisa), Nathaniel Wade, Preston Burrows, Brittany Talton, Angela Williams and Devin Hickman all who Tommie considered as grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his Special friend Alberta ‘Bert’ Hickman also survive.

In addition to his wife, Tommie was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Benton, and his parents Clint and Willie He is also preceded in death by a grandson Kevin Charles, 4 great-grandchildren, an adopted daughter Dana Burrows and siblings: Arretta Lee, Ettaren Wofford, Bertha Mae Benton, Amos Benton, Sr., Veblee Benton, Rev. Clint ‘Sonny’ Benton, Jr., and Inez McDowell, along with in-laws: Helen Anderson and Johnny Walker with his wife Emma. Also, his beloved grand-dog Kellz.

He was preceded in death by his father, son, Joseph Benton, sister, Helen Anderson, brother, Albert Boyd, Jr., sister-in-law, Emma Walker, grandson, Kevin Charles, nephew, Brandon Walker, four grandchildren in infancy, 4 great grandchildren in infancy and an adopted daughter, Dana Burrows.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to Cynthia Benton. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
