Terry Bockenfeld

Terry Bockenfeld, age 73, passed away on September 24, 2025 at 5:44pm at Blessing Hospital. He was born November 25,1951 to Joseph and Wilma (Chinchen) Bockenfeld in Quincy, Illinois. He married Monika (Hertlein) on June 3rd, 1976 in Ansbach, Germany. She survives.
Terry was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He was a 21 year Army Veteran with an honorable discharge and most recently went on The Great River Honor Flight in August. After his career in the Army, Terry pursued a career in truck driving and spent the next 20+ years working for Community Wholesale Tire and R.D Shaffer. Terry finally retired in 2023.
In his free time, you could find Terry puttering around in his garden or mowing his grass. He loved watching old western movies and the Hallmark Christmas movies. He could watch them over and over again and never tire of them. He enjoyed going to the gym and taking his dog, Sophie, for a walk. You would often see his dog, Sophie, pretty much attached to his hip. You can bet that if he was eating something, she was getting the last bite.
Terry was the one you could count on to always have a funny story to tell, whether it was from his childhood or Army days. He always had a laugh or a smile on his face when he was around his family. He loved to joke and tease, especially his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived my god two children, Denise Bockenfeld (Jim Eager) of Quincy, Danny Bockenfeld (Viola) of Chicago, IL. Grandchildren: Ella, Lucas, Teriana and Liam. Siblings Sharon Wellman (Don), Rebecca McLean, Bill Bockenfeld (Diana), Greg Bockenfeld (Penny). He also had numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, nieces Tera Smith and Joy Wellman, nephew Jay Wellman and brother-in-law Denny McLean.
Graveside services with military rites by the United States Army Honor Detail and the American Legion Post #37 Honor Guard will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held immediately following until 2:00 PM at the Twin Oaks Club. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
