Susan Marie Peters
Susan Marie Peters joined her parents Kathleen and Richard along with sister Judy, brother Jim and other family members in eternal life on Monday, February 2nd after a battle with cancer. Susan was born on November 29, 1946 in Quincy, Illinois. She lived her entire life in Quincy and the surrounding area.
Susan will be remembered as a caring and thoughtful teacher for over 37 years. Her inspiration was the growth and development of her students. She loved to share her teaching prowess skills through the art of storytelling. Many of those that benefited from her commitment often fondly recalled the impact she had on them. Learning communities in which she contributed in Illinois included, Nebo Elementary School, Bayliss Elementary School, St. Dominic’s and St. Mary’s elementary schools in Quincy. At Mendon Middle and High Schools her focus was special education. In Hannibal, Missouri she made teaching history and geography interesting!
Susan earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Quincy College and a Master of Science degree in education from Western Illinois University.
Susan, an avid bowler, was recognized as a top five women’s bowler for three years in Quincy. She was the Quincy Women’s Bowling Association secretary for four years and on the Board of Directors for 15 years. She was quite proud of her bowling prowess. The Quincy bowling community provided her with much joy.
She so loved her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Each has been the recipient of a baby blanket, quilt, hat, or scarf hand crocheted by her. Susan greatly enjoyed creating snowflake Christmas ornaments for her family. As an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan much banter was created with her Cub fan siblings.
Susan is survived by her siblings Dan (Brenda) Peters, Nick (Doris) Peters, Mike (Dorothy)Peters, Thomas “Toby” Peters (Mary Kay Ellis), and Theresa (John) Unterfenger, as well as scores of adoring nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

My oldest son and I met Susan at the Kroc Center years ago. We talked a lot about her days as a teacher, and she was one of the first people to help my son come out of his shell (he has autism). I miss seeing her, and our talks. Rest In Peace, sweet lady!

Miss Peters enjoyed sharing her love of History with her students. She helped bring History to life through stories, demonstrations and projects. She certainly inspired my appreciation for History, and for that I’m grateful to her. I enjoyed running into her throughout the years. Prayers for her and her family.
