Robert Dee Orr

Robert Dee Orr, age 92, of Carthage and formerly of Quincy, died on December 5, 2025 in Carthage, IL. He was born on March 1, 1933 in Rock Falls, IL, the son of Dr. Richard D. Orr and Jewel (Fickel) Orr Brown.

He married Carol M. Lokowich on April 4, 1959 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on February 22, 1988. He later married Faye Niekamp on November 13, 1993 in Quincy, IL.

He graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria, IL and then served with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War from 1951-1955. He worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a Lineman and Central Office Technician from 1955-1986. Robert was an active member of St. John the Baptist and then Blessed Sacrament Catholic parishes. He enjoyed volunteering at Blessing Hospital and St. Mary’s Church and School in his free time. He was an avid reader, a skilled woodworker, and a dedicated gardener.

He is survived by his cherished second wife, Faye Niekamp Orr, and by his children Karen Chambers (Scott) of Lenexa, KS, Kathy Orr Pomerenk of Bethesda, MD, and Mike Orr (Jackie) of Hamilton, IL, along with his stepchildren Ken Niekamp (Judy) of Peoria, IL, Gary Niekamp (Kathye) of Fowler, IL, Pam Shaffer (Duane) of Ursa, IL, and Kathy Thomas (Ken Holtschlag) of Quincy, IL. He often said he was blessed to have two families, all of whom filled him with pride and joy. They include eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, along with nine step grandchildren, 22 step great-grandchildren, and three step great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Carol M. Orr, his mother, Jewel Orr Brown, his father, Dr. Richard Orr, his stepfather, Earl Brown, his brothers George and Jackie Orr, his sister, Marian Orr Hilst, and his sons-in-law, Dale Conway and Robert Pomerenk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1119 South 7th St. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held at Blessed Sacrament on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Adams County CASA/Advocacy Network for Children, Great River Honor Flight (Box 3723, Quincy, IL 62305), and Wreaths Across America (checks payable to Ursa Willing Workers 4-H Club, memo line WAA-IL0159).

    Karen, Kathy, and Mike — You have my sympathy. Mr. Orr was so nice — As was your Mother. I have not seen your Dad recently, but was around him a lot when we were younger. Y’all lived closer to my Uncle Dick Terwelp.
