Phillip “Butter” Cobb, Jr., age 54, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Blessing Hospital. He was born on December 25, 1971, in Quincy, Illinois, a son of Phillip D. and Jill Ellen (Watkins) Cobb, Sr. His father survives.

Known for his competitive spirit, fierce determination, and generous heart, Butter was someone who always stood up for the people he loved. Though hard-headed at times, his strength, resilience, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Butter found joy in sports, whether watching baseball, basketball, football, NASCAR, or UFC, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Longhorns, or reminiscing about his days being the best shortstop. He also traveled all over playing in Gus Mackers. A lifelong fan of heavy metal and ’80s hair bands, he could often be found listening to music, watching music videos, enjoying a game of euchre, or rocking in his recliner.

His favorite pastimes growing up were playing Dungeons & Dragons, AirBand, and Video Games. When Guitar Hero was released, you could often find Butter setting a new high score in the living room.

He also took great pride in his years frying donuts at Jolly Donuts and Dixie Cream, a job that became one of the many things people fondly associated with him. His close bond with his mother and his unwavering love for family defined who he was.

His greatest pride was being a father and grandfather. Butter loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews beyond measure, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with them. Some of their favorite memories include walks through the creek, mushroom hunting, baseball card shows, trips to Aladdin’s Castle, and being relentlessly tickled until they couldn’t stop laughing. He especially cherished teaching and coaching his only son in the sports he loved.

Above all, Butter will be remembered as a resilient fighter, a devoted protector, and a man whose love for his family was the greatest victory of all.

In addition to his father, Butter is survived by his children: Brittni (Andrew Dittmer) Cobb, Breana Cobb, Phillip Cobb III, and Braylinn Cobb; Grandchildren: Adilynn and Amari; Siblings: Cory (Molly Rost) Cobb and Brooke Cobb; Nieces and Nephews: Jasmine and Jax; Caleb, Cailee; Haven; Kobe; Kayley; and Karley; Aunt: Jann (Lee) Harris; His life long best friend, David Hamann and numerous other friends and relatives also survive.

Butter is preceded in death by his Grandmother Cookson and his mother.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Brooke Cobb for funeral expenses. The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
