Paulette J. Vahlkamp

Paulette J. Vahlkamp, age 68, of Quincy, died on Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on November 21, 1955 in Quincy the daughter of Raymond and Emma (Brinkman) Vahlkamp, Sr. She married Gary Smith and from this union were born two children: Shawna Gerding and Cory Smith.

Paulette was a mid-term graduate of Quincy Senior High School in 1973 and was employed as a medical coder for Blessing Hospital for 16 years, retiring in 2020. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Paulette was a volunteer for the Adams County Emergency Management Agency. She volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program RSVP and at Blessing Hospital and the Quincy Senior Center ‘News and Views’. She also was part of the Quincy Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Paulette enjoyed camping and her morning camping coffee with her grandchildren and sisters.

Paulette is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Shawna Gerding (Donnie Shepard) and Cory Smith all of Quincy.
GRANDCHILDREN: Shay and Lincoln Gerding
SIBLINGS: Margie Rose, Danny Vahlkamp, Elaine McKinstry (John), and Kristine Dennis (Leslie) and a sister-in-law Teresa Vahlkamp.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Paulette was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings: Joan O’Neal and Raymond ‘Skip’ Vahlkamp, Jr., brothers-in-law Jerry Rose and Don O’Neal, and sister-in-law Jean Vahlkamp.

A Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a graveside service to immediately follow at Quincy Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to an educational fund for her grandchildren: Shay and Lincoln. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
