A special ‘thank you’ to all the loving staff at Casita Catherine Assisted Living facility who took Hubert (and Betty before him at St. Vincent Home) into their hearts and lovingly cared for them. Hubert added some of you to his list as his “durn fool kids”.
We would also like to thank Blessing Hospice for their help in Hubert’s final days. Their help and compassion is greatly appreciated. Matt and the whole team were wonderful.

I remember Hubie from the old St. Boniface days. I know he and dad (Francis) worked together on many committees from the St Patrick’s day dinner to other Holy Name events.
A kind, likable man.
Our condolences. Rick and Judy Haugh

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Hubie Ott, a remarkable man who lived 98 years with quiet joy, steady kindness, and a smile that never seemed to fade. Our families grew up side‑by‑side, and some of my fondest childhood memories are wrapped up in those evenings when the Otts and the Ebbing’s gathered around the big table — often for one of those famous spaghetti dinners in the Ott family dining room.
I can still picture the basement pool table, the laughter, the easy way Hubie made space for conversation. He was never loud, never hurried — just present, patient, and genuinely interested in whatever you had to say. As a kid, that meant the world to me.
Hubie lived his faith in quiet, consistent ways. I remember him active in the Holy Name Society and the Parents Club at St. Boniface — working the St. Patrick’s Day dinners, helping with dances, showing up for every event with that same gentle spirit. He was simply an all‑around good man, fun to be around, steady in service, and generous with his time.
To all my cousins and your families, blessings and love as you celebrate Hubie’s long, meaningful life and grieve his passing. May the stories, the laughter, and the legacy of his kindness bring you comfort in the days ahead.
With our sympathy,
Joe Ebbing and Scot Kleinhanzl
With deepest sympathy. I am saddened to learn of the passing of Hubie. He and Betty were close friends of my parents all their lives. One interesting fact I did not know after reading the obit is they were married two weeks before my parents. So the Otts and the Bernzens go back on long ways. They became friends through the adult CYO program that was started after the “War”. There were many Catholic couples that used to mix during those years through that organization.
The legacy that Hubie and Betty have left is truly amazing. Just look at their beautiful family. But, another legacy they have left along with my parents was the start of the Christin Family Camp. Hubie and Betty and my parents along with the Franciscan Friars from St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy started a family retreat camp for young Catholic families in 1961! And I am happy and proud to say that camp is still going strong to this day. My youngest brother, Bob and his family still attend every year!
I remember all the good times our families had together with the Otts at their home on Kentucky St. One particular time I remember is Hubie had built a club house in their backyard. He had routed a sign that said “The Ott House”. I thought that was so cool. Another time I remember was Hubie was one of the tour guides for the rebuilt St. Boniface Catholic Church. It was neat to hear him explain all the details that went into the new Church.
Hubie definitely live a very devout Catholic Christian life. He was certainly lead by the Holy Spirit. I treasure the time I got to see him in Quincy in 2018 at our 50th CB/ND Class Reunion. Thanks to the efforts of Ann and Mary. I will always remember Hubie and Betty and all the Otts as they were a big part of our family growing up as kids.
Rest in peace Hubie. I know God has welcomed you home.
