Mary Kay Gustison
Mary Kay Gustison, age 76, of Quincy passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday morning April 25, 2025. A beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend she leaves behind a legacy of warmth, faith and quiet kindness. Kay was born on November 17, 1948 to the late Timothy and Angela (Brink) Gustison. Kay was a member of St Francis Solanus Catholic Church and her faith meant so much to her. She graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School and began a long and fulfilling career as a bank teller, a role she truly loved. Starting with the Illinois State Bank, she stayed through its transitions to Boatman’s Bank, Nations Bank, and finally Bank of America, retiring after decades of loyal service. She was well known for her friendly spirit, kind heart and the genuine care she showed to every customer.
Kay loved a good mystery novel, especially by James Patterson. She found joy and peace in counted cross stitch, creating beautiful intricate pieces by hand. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family, especially the game ‘31’ which often filled gatherings with laughter, fun and connection. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. She loved cheering them on and once loved attending games in person.
Kay is survived by her loving Siblings: Judy Gustison of Quincy, Mike (Beth) Gustison of Quincy, Ken Gustison of Asheville, NC, Ron Gustison of Quincy, Debbie (Rob) Swegle of Pekin, IL, and Sister-In-Law: Carol Gustison. She was a devoted aunt to her eight nieces and nephews: Amy (Wayne) Martin, Darren (Heidi) Gustison, Greta (Frank) Heck, Tami (Toby) Culp, Tony (Betsy) Gustison, Barb Gustison, Tim Gustison, and Mark (Laila) Gustison. She was also a proud great aunt to 14 great-nieces and nephews and a loving great-great aunt to one great-great niece. She also shared a special lifelong bond to her cousin Mary Ann VonderHaar and was close to many other dear cousins.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Jack Gustison and Dennis Gustison.
Her family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers and support shown during this time. Kay’s quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and deep love for her family will never be forgotten.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 12:00 Noon in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the mass at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice in gratitude for their compassionate care during Kay’s final days or to St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church for their continued prayers, love and support during Kay’s journey home. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
One of Janes besties! May God comfort friends and family… Lots of great times. Much love Hal
Kay was a sweet lady when I worked with her at ISB and Boatmans Bank. Thinking of the Gustison family during this time of loss.
There was always a constant at the bank regardless of the name above the door. Kay’s smiling face and helpful attitude was always there. Banked with her front 1983 until they finally closed.
My sympathy on your loss. She was a great person.
Kay was always a smiling face and a pleasant word at the bank. Enjoyed the days with her, Beth and JoJo.
My sympathies to the family on your loss.
Dear Family,
I remember your whole Family at St. Rose as kids. And your mother was a relative to the Geers.
You took great care of your mom and dad and I have great times with Tim too.
May God reward her on her journey to the Father.
I’ll have a mass said for her.
My best always
Paul K. Geers
Pres of the Latin mass society/ Historic St. Rose parish.
Sympathy to the family at Kay’s passing. It has been a few years since I last saw or spoke with her.
So sorry for your loss! Prayers for peace and comfort in your memories of her.
Thoughts and Prayers are with the Family!
I went to High School with Mary Kay.
Ken and Family,
I was very sorry to read of the passing of your sister Mary Kay. Ken, I did not know her personally, but I probably met her a time or two at your house when we were teenagers.
Though health and disability prevent me from getting out much anymore, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Ken, you may not remember me, but you and I were classmates for a few years at Christian Brothers High School. Your mother Angie sang at my wedding in St. Rose back in 1973.
Once again, please accept my condolences on the loss of your sister.
