Marilyn Emma Barry

Marilyn Emma Barry age 87, of Liberty died on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Blessing Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Quincy on July 1, 1936, a daughter of Edmund and Frances (Hummel) Jansen. She married George Barry on September 28, 1957, in Quincy’s St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and he survives.

She was a 1954 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

Marilyn was a devoted farmwife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always working and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.

She held jobs outside the home including her work in the cafeteria at Liberty School.
Marilyn was also employed by the Federal Aviation Agency, and at the Scholz Law Office as a legal secretary.

She was an active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church, and the East Union Community Club.

For many years she and George were members of the Eagles Alps where they enjoyed attending dances. As early as 1954, Marilyn began keeping a daily journal, recording the weather, the farm markets, and their daily activities; she was a meticulous bookkeeper. Marilyn enjoyed celebrating with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their numerous events. She was also a great conversationalist.

In addition to her husband, Marilyn is survived by her children: Ronald (Rose) Barry; Robert (Laura Oakman) Barry; David (Kay) Barry; Joyce (Steve) Klingele; and Richard (Kristine) Barry all of Liberty; Jeanne (Dennis “Gus”) Dietrich of Quincy; and Janet Barry of Payson, IL.

19 grandchildren: Matt (Amanda) Barry, Marc (Kendall Moore) Barry, Rachelle (Rob) Goodwin, Jessica (Kaleb) Purcell, Keith (Jennifer) Barry, Craig Barry, Angela (Ben) Thompson, Bradley Barry, Bryan Klingele, Drew (Stephanie) Klingele, Connor Klingele, Amber (Nick) Wiemelt, Heather (Devin) Buss, Eric (Kelsey) Barry, Kari (Wade) Murfin, Olivia Barry, Nicholas Barry, Kyle (Sarah) Beckman and Nicole (Jordan) Cook.

One brother, Eugene (Betty) Jansen of Quincy, IL. Sisters-in- law, Helen Jansen of Quincy, IL and Patricia Barry of Liberty, IL.

She is also survived by twenty-nine great-grandchildren (with one on the way), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Aaron Barry, a great-grandson and two brothers, Edmund (Sandy) Jansen, Jr. and Russell Jansen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Brigid Catholic Church, Liberty, IL.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.in St. Brigid Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to St. Brigid Catholic Church or St. Brigid Cemetery.
Service arrangements are in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
