Margo Jean Miller
Margo Jean Miller of Quincy, IL passed away on May 15, 2026. Margo was born in La Crosse, WI to George and Alice (Schultz) Martin and was raised in Quincy, IL. She attended St. James Lutheran grade school, Quincy High School and John Wood Community College.
Margo married Lester Miller who predeceased her December 30, 2016.
She retired from the Illinois Veterans Home. After retiring she enjoyed her volunteer work through RSVP and made many friendships from doing so.
Margo enjoyed sharing her talents of crocheting afghans, scarves, also baby blankets and stocking hats for anyone in need. She donated many to Blessed Beginnings, and Care Link, in addition to any expecting church member and family friends.
Her other hidden talent was candy making, starting early in late October with her turtles, peanut butter balls and the most delicious peanut brittle. Margo was an excellent cook and in her early years enjoyed the garden and canning.
When she hung up her apron, she opted to go out to eat with family and friends. Monthly lunch dates with her close friends, “the sixers” and she recently connected with ladies from her high school class, the “the 80’s”, and enjoyed going out to eat monthly with them.
Margo enjoyed game nights, and road trips. Her greatest treasure was her family as was noted by her display of family pictures. She enjoyed visits, lunches and any time she could spend with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild.
She is survived by daughter Ren’e Orr (Chuck), son James Wand, and son-in-law Don Altgilbers. Grandchildren Nathan Peters (Marybel), Aftan Peters (Jason), Tasha Olin (Lee), Natalie Meyer (Andrew), Stacey McKinney (Matt), Hayley Wand (Armando), Tanner Wand (Hanna), and Madison Wand. Great grandchildren Diego Peters, Tito Peters, Liliana Peters, Araceli Peters, Tommy Holmes, Dylan Storck, Delanie Olin, Kinlee Olin, Bryer McKinney, Graeme McKinney, Lyla Meyer and Leo Meyer. One great-great grandchild Tito Peters Jr, Brother-in-law Rich Mettemeyer, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Margo was preceded in death by her daughter Reon Altgilbers, parents George and Alice Martin, brother David Martin, sister Joann Jording along with her husband David and sister Linda Mettemeyer.
The family would like to thank Margo’s care givers, Dr. Kim of Quincy Medical Group, Dr. Memen, Dr. Johnson and the staff from Blessing Health Oncology and the extraordinary care provided by Blessing Health Hospice.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Quincy Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers Margo request memorials be made to St. James Lutheran School Youth Group.
