Margaret H. Huelsmeyer
It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our mother, Margaret H. Huelsmeyer, age 92, of Quincy. She died on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Margaret was born on January 8, 1934, in Quincy, to Florence Blaesing Lawrence and Alfred H. Lawrence. Margaret graduated from St. Francis Solanus School and Notre Dame High School in 1951. On October 29, 1955, she married the love of her life, Donald “Don” Huelsmeyer. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2015.
She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Donald A. Busbey, Sr., as a bookkeeper for Quincy Memorial Park, and after retirement was employed by Wilbert Vault. Later in life, she generously volunteered her time with the Ladies of Charity.
Margaret was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a caring, warm-hearted person, always willing to lend a hand. She meant so much to many and became an “adopted” mother to many along the way.
Holidays were a special joy in Margaret’s life, especially Christmas, which she cherished most. She loved bringing her family together for traditions like Easter egg hunts and Thanksgiving bingo, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
She also had a creative spirit and found joy in sewing – making Barbie clothes and formal dresses – and in ceramics, sharing her talents in ways that brought happiness to others.
Her love for her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and longtime friends was evident throughout her life. Margaret is survived by three children, Lisa Hummert and her husband, Mike, Linda Paul, and Mark Huelsmeyer and his wife, Martha, and her sister, Charlotte Woodworth and her husband, Paul.
GRANDCHILDREN: Neil (Rachel) Hummert, Blaine (Martina Damo) Hummert, Lauren (Dan) Queathem, Nathan (Sarah) Paul, Courtney (Craig) Carosello, Nick (Megan) Paul, Mandy (Kyle) Blomenkamp, Amy (Jeremy) Young.
She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, who lovingly call her “Gigi,” as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert (Evelyn) Lawrence; her sisters, Rosella (Charles) Wheeler, and Mary (Carson) Gay; and many dear friends.
The family expresses sincere appreciation for Margaret’s health care providers, especially Dr. Louis Kim and staff at the Quincy Medical Group, for their kindness and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Church. Mass will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Church, Quincy, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or Ladies of Charity, Quincy. Arrangements are with the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
Dear Charlotte and all the family,
I met her at Dr. Busbey’s office. My prayers are with all of you.
