Lois E. Wand

Lois E. Wand, age 89, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in the Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living Center. She was born on February 23, 1934 in Liberty, Il the daughter of Lyle & Ida (Wheeler) Schoonover. She married Arthur R. Wand on May 30, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1979.

Lois was a surgical nurse at Blessing Hospital for 27 years, then became Dr. Merle Crossland’s nurse at Quincy Medical Group for 14 years until her retirement in 1996.

Lois was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She sang in the church choir, was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, and helped with the funeral dinners. Lois was also a volunteer for the parish picnic for many years, where she was widely known for her funnel cake stand. She enjoyed doing crafts and attending craft shows. She loved her garden, her flowers, and birdwatching. She also enjoyed the Quincy Community Theatre.

Lois is survived by:
CHILDREN: Michael Wand (Brenda); Stanley Wand (Lisa) and Thomas Wand (Bobbette) all of Quincy.
DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Susan Grist (Jerry) of Quincy
GRANDCHILDREN: Matthew Wand (Mandy); Ryan Wand (Ashley), Renee Deters (Stephen) and Tyler Wand.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Abram, Luke and Joel Wand with an additional great-grandchild coming in August.; Braiden Atterbery, Hunter and Archer Wand; and Mya, Joel and Ian Deters.
SISTER: Linda Hargrove.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Lois was also preceded in death by her parents, a son David Wand, and siblings: Richard Schoonover, Doris Hoener and William Schoonover.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9:45 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:30 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Nurses Honor Guard will present at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to Blessing Hospital Foundation for Hospice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Prayers for your family. Lois was a wonderful lady and I enjoyed working with her at Quincy Clinic. Those were the days when everyone was like family and I feel your sorrow.

    To Mike, Brenda and entire Wand family our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Your mom was a sweetheart to work with and always had a smile on her face. She had a laugh you could never forget. She and Dr. Crossland had the most beautiful flowers at the receptionists desk at Quincy Clinic. She made the most incredible chocolate crème pie ever.
