Lloyd W. Peters
Lloyd William Peters, age 87, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
He was born on March 15, 1938, to Edmund and Laura (Ohnemus) Peters. On February 17, 1962, he married Jean V. (Hartzell) Peters at the former St. Mary Catholic Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death in 2019.
Lloyd lived in Quincy, Illinois, his entire life and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish. In 1956, he graduated from Notre Dame of Quincy and later began working as a toolmaker for Gardner Denver. He was a hard worker, moving up the ranks to Manager of Manufacturing Engineering before his retirement in 2006 after 45 years of service.
Lloyd and Jean maintained a beautiful and substantial backyard garden throughout their lives, and were known to share those flowers, fruits, and vegetables with family and friends. Lloyd was a remarkably skilled worker, having built not only their own family home but also assisted his family members with any woodworking, plumbing, or electrical projects that came up over the years. He spent much of his time outside, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and attended countless sporting events and recitals for his children and grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by his daughters: Tammy (Christopher) Niemann and Cindy Peters, both of Quincy; his four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Christopher) Dreste of St. Louis, MO, Adam (Catherine) Niemann of Quincy, Eric Niemann of Quincy, and Caroline Niemann of St. Charles, MO; and five great-grandchildren: John, Eleanor “Nell,” and Rose Dreste of St. Louis, MO, and Emma and Olivia Niemann of Quincy.
His sister, Joyce (Jerry) Sanders of Quincy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also survive him.
In addition to his wife Jean, Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, sister Loretta Peters, and brothers Kenneth and Richard Peters.

Dear Family.
I knew his I parents well and he and his wife so many years ago. He came from St. Johns parish and I knew them when attending St. Lawrence chapel in the old days. His mother was a daily attendance at the chapel and saw all of the at the old Plaza so many yrs ago.
A great family to know.

Dear Cindy,
I know his presence will be missed, but his memory will live on. He was a loving and quiet man who was willing to help anyone in need. His faith in God and his openness in prayer made him the special man he was. I will miss his dry sense of humor and his genuine, sweet personality. All my love during this time of deep sadness.
Dear Cindy,
Although Karl and I only spent a short time with your dad he quickly became our friend. We especially enjoyed eating many lunches together at Good Samaritan. We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Cindy,
We are going to miss both of you in the hallways of Good Sam. Always enjoyed seeing your father’s smiling face as you took your nightly walks. He so enjoyed those times together and I know it was a special time to spend with him. He is now free of all his ailments and with your mom again. We know you miss him terribly but one day will be reunited again. Prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Dearest Cindy, I’m so very sorry for your hearts loss of your daddy. It appears from seeing you and your loving nature that you were raised by wonderful parents. May your heart be filled with beautiful memories of your time together. Hugs and prayers are sent your way
We are so sorry to hear of Mr. Peter’s passing. It was nice seeing he and his daughter walking most evenings at Good Sam as I walked my mom. He and his wife had lived just a few houses down from us on Highland Lane. There is no doubt he had a loving supportive family and will be missed. Hold close your treasured memories.
Great memories at Burger King. Loved talking about their garden!
Tammy, Chris and Family – I am sorry for your loss – I wish you peace
Tammy, Chris, Cindy and families,
Our deepest sympathies to all of you, the children, the grandchildren, and the great grandchildren.
