Larry N. Freeman

Larry N. Freeman, of Quincy, entered heaven’s gates on March 24, 2023.

He was born March 31, 1939 in Lebanon, MO, the son of Alfred and Mary Pennock Freeman. He married Deanna Dyer on October 5, 1992 and she survives.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Larry leaves behind his wife, Deanna; one daughter, ChaRae (Kerry) Camp of Independence, MO; one son, Landon Freeman of St. Louis, MO; one step-son, Corey (Bre) Platt of Quincy; four grandchildren, Emily (Ben) Hart of Independence, MO, Megan Camp (Emily Hendricker), Cydney and Chasidy Platt, both of Quincy; two great-grandchildren, Rebel and Gracie, one brother, Lynn (Sharon) Freeman of Griggsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Anita Phillips.

Larry was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School where he was a standout athlete for the Saukee football and track teams. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard surface ships and the submarine; USS Cutlass, from 1957 to 1961. During his time in the Navy, Larry acquired a love for travel. He was a union trucker for over 30 years working for multiple trucklines including Lagomarcino-Grupe, Gordons Transports and Yellow Freight. Following retirement he applied his handy skills toward volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, Blessing Hospital and Horizons Soup Kitchen. He was a member of the Vermont Street United Methodist Church. Larry enjoyed heading down the highway and going on road trips. He was immersed in the hobby of Pontiac muscle cars including drag racing, cruising and car shows and owned several classic Pontiacs. Larry was known for his kindness, generosity and above all love for his family. He never failed to appreciate the wonder of creation, whether it was an ocean view, the mountains or by befriending a rabbit in the back yard.

Family will meet friends from 10 AM until 11:15 AM on Thursday, March 30th 2023 for visitation at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11:30AM with military honors held at Quincy Memorial Park.
