Judith Kay Veihl

Judith Kay ‘Judy’ Veihl, age 83, of Quincy, left this earth on July 17,2026. She was born on April 27, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of D.R. and Myrtle (Oberdahlhoff) Watkins. She graduated high school from Quincy Senior High. She married the love of her life Michael Gary Veihl on July 4, 1964 at St. John’s Catholic Church.

In her early years, she started working by helping out her father at Watkins Market at 12th and Broadway in Quincy, IL; coincidentally, that is where she met her Husband. She would then transition next door to Earel and Buss Drugs as a Pharmacy Technician. She would continue the rest of her career as a Pharmacy Tech at Quincy Medical Group, and then retiring from The Medicine Shoppe.

Judy loved to cook and bake for her family. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls, monkey bread, pineapple upside down cake, and the grandkids favorite chocolate graham cracker pie. All the grandkids will tell you that no one can make it like she did (and believe me we have all tried).

In addition to her loving, devoted husband Michael Gary, she is survived by her sister Jann (Lee) Harris; Her sister-in-law Jody Watkins; Her brother-in-law Phil Cobb; Her brother-in-law Patrick (Betty) Veihl and her sister-in-law Patty Roberts.

Judy is also survived by her children Kelly Lynn Veihl, Michael Daniel (Christine) Veihl, Ellen Sue Herman, and Krista Kay Veihl all of Quincy, IL. Her grandchildren who brought her the most joy are Spencer (Abbie) Herman of Mendon, IL, Emlea (Mitchell) Mowen, Quincy, IL, Blake Herman, The Big Island, Hawaii, Ashlyn (Evan) Schreacke of Quincy, IL, Andrew (fiancé Madeline Meyer) Veihl of Denver, CO, Parker Herman, Breckenridge, CO, Gavin Janes, Hannibal, MO, and Kenady Janes, Quincy, IL. Her great-grandchildren include Wells and Whitley Herman, Ella Mowen, and Charlie Schreacke. Numerous other cousins and nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents D.R. and Myrtle, her mother and father-in-law Charles and Mildred Veihl. Her brothers and sister in-law Jack Watkins, and Bill (Marcia) Watkins, and her sister Jill Cobb. Brothers-in-laws and sister-in-law Thomas (Emily) Roberts and Donald Roberts.

Judy was fierce and stubborn and gave our dad and all of us kids a run for our money, but you never doubted her fierce love for you either. They lived a very wonderful 62 years together.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 am at Church of St. Peter’s in Quincy, IL. There is no visitation. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Church of St. Peter’s. Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
