Joseph Edward “Joe” Meyer

Joseph Edward “Joe” Meyer, 95, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. Born on April 28, 1930, to the late Mary Monica (Metzger) and Edward Joseph Meyer, Joe lived a life of faith, family, and service to his community.

Joe was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann Christine Meyer (Brinkman) on May 2, 1959, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Quincy. Their 66 years of marriage were a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

Thomas Meyer of Quincy, Illinois; Dan Meyer of Quincy, Illinois; and Chris Meyer and his wife, Karen (Walker), of McKinney, Texas; and his eight grandchildren: David, Melissa, Matthew, Ben, Stephen, Christina, Elizabeth, and Katelyn.

Joe attended St. Francis Solanus Catholic Grade School and graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1948, where he played the clarinet during his high school years. A devoted Catholic, he and Marilyn were members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Quincy during the time their children attended St. Peter Catholic School for their elementary education. Later, they were longtime parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church before joining Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where their son, Rev. Thomas Meyer, serves as pastor. Joe was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 583 and the Mendon Lions Club, where he was honored for a decade of service as treasurer.

Professionally, Joe dedicated 23 years to Durst and Prairie Farms before retiring. He then pursued his passion for farming as a self-employed farmer. The Sesquicentennial Meyer Family Farm continues his legacy through participation in Conservation Reserve Programs, reflecting his commitment to stewardship.

Joe’s legacy of faith, family, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
