John Frank Lumpkin, III

John Frank Lumpkin, III age 45, of Quincy passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 4:11 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

John was born on August 10, 1981, in Youngstown, OH, a son of John F. “Larry” Lumpkin, II and Joyce Ann (Williams) Lumpkin.

John married Marissa Jo Ewert on July 31, 2010, in the Cathedral of Worship in Quincy and she survives.

John received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Indiana Bloomington.

While attending Indiana, John was a member of the university’s football team, playing defensive end.

After injuries curtailed his playing time, he continued his involvement with the team by serving as a student coach.

He was employed by Quincy Public Schools for 17 years, during which he served for much of his tenure as Dean of Students for ACRSS.

Most recently, he held the position of Student Support Family Liaison. Currently, John was working towards his bachelor’s degree in theology through Life Christian University.

Together with his wife, Marissa, he co-owned Try Love Behavioral Center.

John was a member of the Cathedral of Worship in Quincy, where he served in the usher’s ministry.

He remained active in football by coaching Quincy Youth Football and supporting the Quincy Public Schools football program.

John’s greatest priority was his family. He cherished time spent with his wife and four children and enjoyed organizing game nights and other family activities.

John had a character and integrity that outweighed all others. He had a gift for mentorship and counseling, and genuine compassion, particularly with youth. He poured his life into helping others become the best that they could be. When John walked into a room, the atmosphere would shift. He was a beacon of light to this world and will be deeply missed.

John’s legacy will last far beyond the walls of the Quincy Public Schools and the football stadium. It is embedded in the hearts of those whom he mentored, coached, counseled, and poured his life’s work into.

In addition to his wife, Marissa, John is survived by his parents, Joyce Ann Lumpkin of Warren, Ohio, and John F. “Larry” Lumpkin of Youngstown, Ohio.

He is also survived by his four children, Asia Jackson, Ronia Jackson, Julian Lumpkin, and Jolee Lumpkin, all of Quincy.

His brother, Jermaine (Kelly) Lumpkin; and his nephews, Tremaine Copeland and Yahni L. Lumpkin.

John deeply loved and cared for his family and extended family. He also shared close bonds with cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Baldwin Elementary School Auditorium officiated by Bishop Warren.
