James “Jim” W. Veile

URSA, IL – James “Jim” W. Veile, age 76, of Ursa, died at 5:59 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in Sunset Home.

Jim was born April 15, 1946, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Leonard “Pete” and Frances Rutledge Veile.

On September 27, 1969, he married Nancy K. Rogers at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon. She survives.

He graduated from Quincy High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, and was a plumber with the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 25 for 37 years, retiring in 2006.

Jim was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon.

Since his retirement, you could often find Jim on his porch swing. He enjoyed watching the birds, mushroom hunting, riding his motorcycle, and being available to lend a helping hand to family and friends when called upon. He also worked on many projects including building a Lamborghini Countach Kit Car and renovating his childhood home on Locust Street in Quincy.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a daughter, Kristie (Veile) Bradshaw and her husband, Doug, of Payson, and a son, Craig Veile of Quincy; two grandchildren, Maddie Bradshaw of Payson, and Emerson Veile of Rockford; a sister, Suzanne Morrissey and her husband, Timothy, of Bradenton, Fla; and nieces and nephews Rick Pfaffe, Shayla DeMarco, Stacy Rogers, Scott Rogers, and Theresa Morrissey .

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Betty J. Pfaffe.

If you are planning on attending his service, the family recommends that you dress casually and comfortably, which is the way that Jim preferred.

Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Scott Snider. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Duker & Haugh.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Quincy Medical Group Cancer Center, St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church of Mendon, or St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church of Quincy.

    Jim served his country faithfully, and was a tremedous family man. He was a very devoted Catholic man in this world. May Heavens lights shine a little brighter tonight and always for your family here on earth. His spirit will be with us forever. We have alot of memories of Jim at Church and the Veile Familiy reunions over the years. Our prayers are with your entire family at this most difficult time but I am sure he is headed to Heaven. May god be with your family.

    I had the honor of working with Jim & Nancy upon the death of Jim’s mother. I enjoyed my brief association each year until my retirement .
