James “Jim” Joseph Darnell

James “Jim” Joseph Darnell, age 59, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 in Blessing Hospital. Jim was born on June 7, 1965, in Fort Madison, IA, a son of Thomas B. and Patricia (Malone) Darnell. They both preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from Quincy Public High School in 1984. He is a member of the 1982 Hall of Fame for his high achievement in basketball. Jim was also an excellent baseball and football player.

Jim worked at Darnell Home Improvement.

In his free time, Jim liked to fish. He also loved dogs and being around the children in his family.

Jim is survived by his siblings: Tom (Teresa) Darnell; Kathleen (Don) Koetters; Sharon (Jim) Dittmer; and his twin brother, John (Brandi) Darnell all of Quincy. A stepson, Austin Goughnour of Lima, IL.

Nieces and nephews: Amanda (Matt) Wand; Jacob (Megan) Darnell and Jason (Amanda) Darnell; Nick (Amber) Koetters; Kevin McCormick, Andy (fiancée Brittni), Michael and Matt (Destini) Dittmer; Kameron Darnell. Step-nieces and nephews: Becky (Nate) Frericks; Lindsey (Dan) Dover; and Briana (Dusty) Glas. Uncles: Gary (Carol) Darnell and Butch Darnell, both of Quincy. Many additional relatives and friends also survive.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his aunts: Mary (Mike) Tipton; Mary Ann and Janet; and an uncle, Mike (Ronnie Darnell).

Cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Utopia, in Quincy, IL, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Memorials are suggested in care of Tom Darnell for the medical expenses of Baby Navy, Jim’s step-granddaughter.
The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. Jim will be missed dearly. He was an amazing, lovjng, and kind man. We are so blessed to have had him in our lives and our brother Joe’s life. Our hearts are very saddened.

      We are heartbroken over Jim’s passing. He will definitely be missed in our household and will truly miss fixing him supper. He was a great friend and an awesome man. Love you buddy❤️
