James “Jim” F. Schutte

James “Jim” F. Schutte, age 84, of Quincy, died on June 23, 2026 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on January 8, 1942 in Quincy, the son of Rome and Margaret (Wilson) Schutte. He married Marcia A. Stonewall on November 28, 1964 in St. Thomas Church, she survives.

Jim graduated from Central High School in 1960. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Home Builders Association of Quincy and Spring Lake Country Club.

Jim owned and operated Jim Schutte Builder. He was well-known back in the day as a quality home-builder. He left his mark all throughout our community of Quincy. He had a passion for carpenter work. It wasn’t just a ‘job’, it was who he was. His work ethic was second to none. His wife was a huge part of the business working by his side and doing his office work. He taught each of his children his trade as he took them on the job with him to learn the skills which they each use in their careers today. Some of them still live in houses that he built for them!

In his early years, Jim loved playing tennis. He met many friends at Sheridan Swim Club on the tennis courts. He was also a member at Quincy Racquet Club and was a fierce competitor. Later in life, he simply enjoyed sitting outside enjoying God’s beauty. He especially enjoyed a waterfront view and going on vacation to a warm climate. He loved spending time with his family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were one of the most special things he treasured.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his children: Jamie Mayer of Rogers, AR, Jeff (Tracy) Schutte, Jill Schuckman, and Jeanne (Brian) Anderson all of Quincy.

Grandchildren: Collin (LauraBeth) Mayer, Alexis Mayer, Parker (Sierra) Schutte, Dale Schutte, Maggie (Cooper Larson) Schutte, Kaitlin Schuckman, Kohl (Nicole) Schuckman, Keaton (Amanda) Schuckman, Kyra (Brady) Nierman, Isabella Anderson, Seth Anderson, and Tanner Anderson.

Great-Grandchildren: Callahan Mayer, Rory Schutte, Kolson Schuckman, Karsyn Schuckman, and Elijah Schuckman.

Siblings: Sherry (Roger) Willis, sisters-in-law Judi Schutte and Donna (Gene) Allensworth, and brother-in-law Dennis (Brenda) Hogan. Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom Schutte, sisters-in-law Joetta Harper and grandson Blake Michael Mayer.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 9:30 AM at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Heart and Vascular Center Foundation. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.

I prayed with your family in the ICU waiting room on June 17 and have been thinking of you ever since. You kept a long and faithful vigil. May God be with you as you celebrate his life and grieve his loss. It sounds like he was a wonderful father, grandpa and husband!

    Marcia and Family,
So sorry for your loss. Jim was a great guy as well as tennis partner. Enjoyed all the great times we had together, as well as with our group from Sheridan. Thankful for all the memories. Wish that I could make it back to Quincy for the funeral, but my thoughts and prayers will have to do.
Love to all of you, Tom
