Gerald L. ‘Gerry’ Rolves, age 76, of Quincy, died on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 5:50 PM in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 16, 1950 in Breese, IL the son of Louis and Marie (Korte) Rolves. He married Carol Hustedde on May 25, 1973. She survives.

Gerry was a graduate of Breese Mater Dei Catholic High School and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Gerry was an insurance agent in the Quincy area for many years. He is a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Having grown up on a small farm, Gerry held a special appreciation for and connection with the farm community. Gerry was active at St. Peter Catholic Church, where he belonged to the men’s prayer group and helped with a number of parish ministries. In recent years, he volunteered at Quincy Notre Dame as a ticket taker. He was also involved with Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) and Cursillo, both of which were very dear to him.

Family came first for Gerry. He and Carol were married 53 years and raised four children in Quincy. He loved having everybody around, whether it was Sunday dinner, a birthday, or just an afternoon of laughter. He was his grandkids’ biggest fan. He was there for their games, recitals and many other events and he always had words of encouragement when it was over. Grandkids were his pride and joy!

He loved to play golf with his kids, his grandkids and his friends. Golf was never about who won. Rather, it was about the time he spent with those whom he loved. He and Carol enjoyed traveling with friends, and they cherished their family vacations in places like Michigan City, Hilton Head and, most recently, Table Rock Lake, where they celebrated their 50th anniversary with their children and grandchildren. Those weeks together, with everyone under one roof, were priceless.

Above all else, Gerry will be remembered for his kind, gentle and patient nature. Selfless, generous and quietly faithful, he had a way of making everyone around him feel important.

FOUR CHILDREN: Carrie Lavery (John), Jamie McDowell (Mark), Mike Rolves (Lisa) and Sarah Scharenborg (Shawn).
GRANDCHILDREN: Calvin, Charlie and Ellie Lavery; Connor, Lauren and Emma McDowell, Evan and Jack Rolves; and Gus, Louise and Alice Scharenborg.
SIBLINGS: Len Rolves (Linda) Mary Lou Wessel (Stan), Judy Winkeler (Ted) and Kathy Renth (Rusty).

Gerry is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bob Rolves.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame or to St. Peter Catholic Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
