Gerald “Booty” Campbell
Gerald “Booty” Campbell, age 67 of Quincy departed from this earthly life to his full and joyous heavenly life on June 19, 2026.
Booty’s story began on April 23, 1959 as he was born into the loving arms of Grover and Alvena (Dingerson) Campbell. Raised in the farming community of Ursa IL He developed a profound love for the land at an early age and was a true steward of the earth. There were very few times you would not find Booty with callused hands or dirt on his boots. As a young child he was known to get into mischief with his two older brothers and that not only made for some great memories and stories but was also the result of their mothers grey hair.
Booty was a man of many words. People knew that if he was around you were in for a treat because his stories were full of humor and witty comments. That incredible spirit met its match when Yvonne (Obert) caught his eye one evening while taking a cruise down Maine Street. After 4 years of dating and countless love letters Booty and Yvonne began their married life on February 4, 1984.
Their house was soon filled with the sounds of 3 amazing children and together the family began the difficult yet rewarding journey of being an Adams County Farm Family. Booty spent a lifetime tending to his crops, raising livestock, and passing down his invaluable work ethic to his children and grandchildren.
Beyond farming Booty also was a rural mail carrier. For 40 years the mail was always on time and those on his route knew him as family and they valued his warm and neighborly spirit. If being a farmer and mail carrier was not enough Booty found his true calling in bulldozing, It has been said that when Booty was behind the controls of a bulldozer it was like watching Picaso paint. He certainly had the “touch” when it came to creating something beautiful and his mark will forever be a part of the landscape in this community.
While being a father was an honor to Booty he got the biggest kick out of being a grandpa. Taking granddaughters on date nights, 4-wheeler rides, playing cards, teaching them all about the farm, taking them on mushroom hunts, and just giving them all a hard-time always gave him much joy.
Yes, Booty’s life was tremendously full and he lived it until his last breathe. It is so difficult to sum up a life well lived in just a few short paragraphs but if there is one thing to take away from a man who had as much integrity as he did work ethic it would be this. Live your life out loud, laugh as much as possible, build roots within your community, be a friend to everyone, and at the end of the day when you go to bed be exhausted because you have given all you could.
In addition to his wife, Booty is survived and remembered by his children: Holly (Dustin) Schell, Nicholas (Jodeen) Campbell, Lucas Campbell, and like a son, Darling Campbell
Grandchildren: Emma, Sophia, and Elijah Schell; Magnolia and Hope Campbell; and Adam, Natalie, and Claire Campbell.
Brother: Greg (Becky) Campbell
Brother and Sisters in Laws: Jim and Karen Obert, Rich Obert, Steve and Penny Obert, Alan Obert, Todd Richman, Matt and Amy Obert, Leon Obert, and Joanne and Jeff Finnigan
Numerous nieces and nephews, as well as life-long friends also survive.
Booty was greeted at heavens gates by his parents, brother Grant Campbell, and granddaughter Grace Schell.
Cremation rites have been accorded per his wishes. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Zion Church in Ursa, IL. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the church, from 9:00am until the time of service.
The family wishes to extend their humble thanksgiving to everyone who has supported them during this difficult journey through grief. They ask if anyone would like to honor Booty’s tremendous life and legacy they can make memorials out to the #BeLikeGrace Foundation which was started by the family to spread kindness and faith to the community. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral home.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

May he rest in peace.
Booty had an infectious smile, and he yearned to trigger a response from you. Booty always asked about family and was always willing to share knowledge from experience. He constantly joked about not having the time for the little things yet treasured the little things associated with everyday life. Each season brought about new challenges and each conversation started with wit and humor only to be closed out with meaning and purpose. I will miss our conversations and your drop ins at the office. Eternity will be made even more beautiful with your presence and with your skillset. You will be missed.
Booty was my mail carrier ever since I moved into the area 33 years ago. He had just started and I still remember his jokes when we met.
His humor continued to lighten my load just a bit every time I saw him. He was one in a million.
I will miss Booty’s sense of humor. I never had a conversation with him that didn’t end in laughter. May God wrap his loving and healing embrace around Booty’s family
Booty left a lasting imprint on all who knew him and we cherished his sharp wit and joy of the banter! A true artist with his dozer that we got to see many times. His visits and all the stories will be missed. He was truly a good hearted man with a great sense of humor!
We are so very sorry for your loss,
Holly,
It sounds like you were blessed with the best Dad! Reading about him, I can see where you get all the wonderful qualities that we love about you. What a remarkable impact he and your family have had on others. We will continue to pray for you and your family.
Love,
Gary and Cathy Harris
On behalf of dad and our entire family, we were shocked and saddened to receive the news of Booty’s passing. He was a wonderful man, so kind, and warm. Always with a smile and friendly comment. Whether delivering our mail or doing what we know he loved, bulldozing for us, he was simply wonderful! We will keep you all in our prayers knowing he will be so missed by so many! Booty, my fellow UHS classmate of 1977, rest in peace, dear friend!
Bill Hilgenbrinck and Family
Condolences and prayers.
