Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Topf, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and devoted community volunteer, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born January 20, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Edna (Linke) Bergsmith. She filled every life she touched with warmth, laughter, and the quiet, steadfast love of a remarkable homemaker. She married Donald Topf on Feb 6, 1954, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2012. A loving and proud mother, Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Elizabeth: Beth Hilbert; Sue Fitzpatrick (Mike); Sharon Von Hagen (Mike); Donna McCulloch (Dave); and Chris Lynch (Pat). She treasured her large and loving family, leaving behind 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom carried forward a piece of her generous spirit.

Elizabeth’s home was the center of family life: a place made welcoming by her thoughtful care, and the countless small acts that made ordinary days feel special. Her kitchen was the heart of so many memories—birthdays, holidays, and simple Sunday suppers—all made better by her hands.

For more than 30 years, Elizabeth volunteered at St. Peter’s Church, where her generosity, energy, and baking became a cherished part of parish life. She gave her free time, organizing, helping, and contributing. Her kindness, faith, and commitment to service left a lasting imprint on the community she loved.

Outside the home, Elizabeth was a woman of wide interests and steady Catholic faith and dedication. She loved to Golf and bowl, which brought her joy and good company. She was a member of Quincy Country Club and Women’s City Club. An avid bridge player well into her 90s, she delighted in the social ritual and challenge of the game, playing twice a week with dear friends and preserving friendships that spanned decades. She loved reading good books, often reading 5-7 every 2 weeks.

She taught the values of patience, perseverance, faith, and devotion to family by example. Her legacy lives on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the recipes passed down through generations, and the many lives she touched through volunteerism and friendship.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Friday, August 7, 2026 at noon. Before the funeral service, friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Elizabeth’s life, share memories, and offer support to one another at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Jude, or a charity of your choice in Elizabeth’s name. The family wishes to thank the caregivers, friends, and neighbors who offered kindness and support through Elizabeth’s later years. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
