Edith Elizabeth “Betty” Klingele

Edith Elizabeth “Betty” Klingele, age 106, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, July 17, 2026, in Blessing Hospital. She was born on October 10, 1919, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Lawrence and Matilda (Dunker) Terwelp. Betty graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School. She married Eugene John Klingele on February 12, 1944. He preceded her in death.

Betty was a nurturing homemaker and stayed home with her children until they were grown. Following this, she worked at the Quincy Public Library. Betty was strong in her faith and a dedicated member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. She was a member of many groups within the parish, including the Third Order, funeral choir, Curisllo, and making rosaries with the Ladies of St. Francis. Betty will be remembered for her positive attitude and sense of humor that garnered her many friends. Her playfulness was especially displayed when she would recite limericks/rhymes which she memorized and repeated often. Above all, Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Betty is survived by her children: Ann (Paul) Moore, David Klingele, Gary (Kathryn) Klingele, Jane (Dave) Clarke, Mary Beth (Dan) Durst, and Jeanette “Missy” (Jeff) Schell
Grandchildren: Christine (Charles) Koehler, Jane (Michael) Reardon, and Michael Moore; Sarah (Mike) Hull and Mary Jane (Clint Hamlin) Klingele; Katie Moore, Dan Clarke, John (Morgan) Clarke, and Lauren (Thomas) Williams; Kelly (Nathan) Terwelp, Karen (Aaron) Weiman, and Tyler (Allie) Durst; Megan (Jeremy) Hudson, Jacob (Gina) Schell and Matthew (Miranda) Schell. Betty is also survived by 40 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her loving husband, Betty was preceded in death by a son: John Klingele, who died in infancy; and siblings: Virginia Deters, Madeline Terwelp, Jeanette “Sister Lucy” Terwelp, Bob Terwelp, Marilyn Kircher, Ruth Hoebing and Gerry Stark.

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Casita Catherine Assisted Living, Good Samaritan Home, Blessing Hospital and Blessing Palliative Care for their kindness and exceptional care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family would like memorial donations to go to St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
