Doris Jean Riutzel

Doris Jean Riutzel, age 99, of Quincy, IL, died on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Bradford Villa. She was born on March 16, 1926, in Canton, MO, the daughter of Randall and Mabel (Esslinger) Morey of LaGrange, MO. Doris Jean married M. Dale Riutzel on June 8, 1947, in the home of her very special aunt and uncle, George and Corrine Richter, one mile north of Taylor, MO. They resided in Quincy, IL until M. Dale passed away on February 9, 2001.

Jean (as everyone called her) attended and graduated from LaGrange School and Chillicothe Business College. She was a member of Ellington Presbyterian Church of Quincy and sang in the choir for many years. Early on, she played the piano and organ and sang at many church weddings. While residing in Naples, FL, she attended St. Peter the Apostle.

She enjoyed a very active social life which include being a past (50 plus year) member of Spring Lake Country Club, singing in Volunteer Voices, volunteering at Blessing Hospital, being a member of Order of the Eastern Star, and Adams County Republican Women’s Club. Jean was also a member of the Elks Club, Twin Oaks Club, and loved participating in water aerobics at Quincy College Gym and the KROC Center.

Jean rarely passed up the chance to socialize with family and friends. She so enjoyed her children and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Participating in and keeping up with their activities are what kept her going. She even traveled with family to Aruba at the age of 93. Jean loved animals and later in life her cat, Muffin and the kids’ dogs, Kaci, Niki, & Molly, spent many joyful hours together. No doubt, Jean is busy socializing in Heaven.

Jean is survived by two children: Marc (Ann) Riutzel of Quincy, IL, and Renee Schlueter also of Quincy; Grandchildren: David (Misty) Riutzel; Eric (Angela) Riutzel; Alexa (James) Reid, Tom Schlueter; Jim (Jan) Schlueter, Kristin (John) Smith; and Kara (Bill) Bradshaw. In addition to her husband, Jean was also preceded in death by a son-in-law Bucky Schlueter and a brother Paul Morey.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, I remember with fondness and a giggle when Dale was at the IVH and Doris had gotten a new answering machine for her home phone, Dale had called home and a male voice answered the phone (everyone had encouraged Doris to use the male voice that came preprogrammed), oh my Lord was Dale furious and it took a number of staff to convince him that the love of his life did not have a man in the home! Doris eventually was able to convince Dale that he was her one and only true love and no one was going to replace him! I hope they are sharing a giggle and a dance in heaven right now! What a loving couple they were! I pray that our Lord and Savior will provide you all with the comfort to endure the days ahead and may your many wonderful memories provide you with comfort and put a smile on your face as well as a giggle at times! May you rest in peace Doris! God, please wrap your loving arms around this family and hold them tight! All my love and condolences. HUGS! Teresa
