Carlene Ann Wolf, age 94, of Quincy, died on July 12, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Home. She was born on August 31, 1931, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Mast) Altgilbers. She married Daniel Jerome Wolf on April 23, 1955 at St. Francis Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1996.

She retired from Illinois Veterans Home after 14 years of employment. In her younger years, she had been employed as a telephone operator by Illinois Bell. After taking time to raise her family, she returned to the workforce as a counter person at Hardee’s on 12th and Locust.

Carlene was the first one in her family to graduate from Quincy Notre Dame High School, graduating in 1949.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

She loved to recount stories of her athleticism, including bowling, softball, basketball, and volleyball. Another proud accomplishment was the many medals she won in the Senior Olympics. It was a goal of hers to learn to swim, which she achieved in her early 80s. Her proficiency on her iPad was well known, and many friends and loved ones received beautiful, thoughtful cards on special occasions. Don’t tell anyone, but she loved playing slot machines – but only a specific game and machine, mind you. During Tiger Woods’ heyday, you wouldn’t even think of calling or visiting her while he was on the course. Then she moved on to Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, rarely missing a basketball game. She was beloved for her positive attitude and giving spirit as well as daily expressions of gratitude. Her sense of humor was second to none.

Carlene is survived by her children and their spouses: Ted (Edie) Wolf, Chatham, IL; Cathy (Bill) Slater, Quincy, IL; Janet (Tim) Polley, Asheville, NC; Peggy (Dennis) Fisher, Forsyth, IL; Becky (Mike) McCutchen, Quincy, IL.

Grandchildren: Bradley (Sarah) Wolf, Matthew (Ellen) Wolf, Chris (Tori) Mazrim, Zachary (Sandy) Mazrim, Paul (Lydia) Slater, Kelly (Aaron) Rosendahl, Erin Fisher, Lauren Fisher, Jack (Hadley) McCutchen, and Claire McCutchen.

Great Grandchildren: Elijah and Magnolia Wolf, James and Raffaela Wolf, Sebastian Mazrim, Lilah Mazrim, Ella and Bennett Slater, Malena and Brantley Miller, Parker and Marshall Rosendahl.

Brother-in-law Ray Evoy, sister-in-law Nancy (Bob) Zanger, numerous nieces and nephews survive.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by siblings and their spouses: Joe (Mildred) Altgilbers, Dorothy (John) Janssen, Florine (Elmer) Sparrow, Donald (Mary and Kathleen) Altgilbers, Wilfred (Katie) Altgilbers, Frances Evoy and Frank Altgilbers; and Norbert Altgilbers in infancy. She was also preceded in death by several nephews and a niece.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 9:30 am at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospice. Service arrangements are with the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
