Barbara Niewohner

Barbara “Barb” Jean Niewohner (Waterkotte) age 79 of Quincy, died on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Barry Healthcare and Senior Living. Barb was born on July 21, 1947, to Ralph and Rita (Broemmel) Waterkotte. She married Terry E. Niewohner on June 28, 1969, in the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and he precedes her in death. Barb will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandma, and great grandma.

Barb was a 1965 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame. She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, and Notre Dame Class of 1965 Reunion Committee. Barb worked for P.A. Bergner & Co. (Bergner’s) for 30 years until she retired. Bergner’s was her favorite place to shop, and the family fondly remembers all the birthday and Christmas gifts in the unmistakable red and white Bergner’s boxes, always beautifully wrapped.

Barb was a gifted artist and left her family a legacy of her artwork in pencil sketching, landscapes, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and china painting. Her love of art and incredible talent was more than a hobby to Barb – it was her passion. She was happiest at china painting class with her sisters and friends. She also loved to play cards with her friends and travel.

Survivors include her three children Keith (Erika Workman) Niewohner, Stacey Niewohner, and Kraig (Tina Jett) Niewohner all of Quincy; five grandchildren, Kara (CJ) Koyer, Kameron Schnelle, Aiden Niewohner, Trinity Schnelle, Zoe Niewohner; 4 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-laws, Ann (Jim) Ohnemus, Kristen Niewhoner, many nieces and nephews, her sisters and best friends, Roseanne (Jim) Terwelp, Mary Lou (Terry) Tucker, and Carol (Tom) Sparrow, and her brother, Bill Watterkotte (Linda).

Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with a Mass of Roman Catholic Burial. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Terry. Visitation is Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Notre Dame Foundation (Class of 1965 Scholarship).
