Allen L. “Sonny” Barnes, age 93, of Quincy, went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2026 at Blessing Hospital. He was born on July 3, 1933 the son of Llewellyn F. Barnes and Emma (Arnold) Innes, and step-father Ross Innes. He married Norma J. Thomas on July 17, 1954 in Chicago, IL.

Allen served in the Vietnam and Korean War as U.S. Navy E7 Chief Petty Officer, serving 20 years and 10 years active duty. He then worked at Quincy Compressor, where he retired.

He loved going to camp, fishing, and trips to the casino to play the machines. He also loved to spend time with his family and talk about being in the Navy.

Allen is survived by his three children: Allen Lee Barnes and his wife Becky of Quincy, Linda Hall of Payson, IL, and Johnny Barnes and his wife Anita of Golden, IL.

His sister, Jo Ann Brown of Quincy.

Ten grandchildren: Shawn Barnes and his wife Kayla, Donnie Barnes and his wife Teresa, Brandy Attey and her husband Tom, Melisssa Franklin and her husband Joseph, Michelle Matticks and her husband Josh, Brooke Barnes, Levi Benton, Emily Miller, Anthony Holmes, Isabella Holmes.

Seventeen great-grandchildren: Haley, Kelci, Kynzi, Breanna, Kassidy, Dylan, Arianna, Katelynn, Alyssa, Isabella, Chase, Jackson, Noah, Kelab, Matt, Chris, and McKenzie.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Norma, his parents, four sisters Margie Zinn, Wanda Sparrow, Bonnie Mathes, Nancy Hultz, and two brothers Charels Barnes and Gary Barnes.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund.
