Cecil Edward Haskins

Cecil Edward Haskins, age 77, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Loraine, IL, died on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Blessing Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on May 1, 1949, in Quincy, the son of Forrest Perry, Sr. and Clara “Elaine” (Adair) Haskins. Cecil married Cathy Lee Jackson on August 19, 1972. She survives.

Cecil graduated from Quincy High School in 1967. He started working at Boekenhoff Bakery while still in high school. In 1968, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served his country for 4 years. He then joined Raymond Bag Co. until joining MoorMan Manufacturing Livestock Equipment Division, working there for 25 years through his retirement. Cecil then pivoted to Manchester Tank & Equipment for a brief period. He then spent 4 years working for Kuester Tool & Die, Inc. He was employed as a bus driver for the Quincy Public School system for 10 years until retiring. He was co-owner of Little Bits and Pieces. He helped with Davis and Ewalt Auction Companies.

Cecil truly enjoyed working with people. Over the course of 40 years, he was a Deacon at Ellington Road Presbyterian Church and was deeply involved in Boy Scouts of America. One of his true passions was scouting and camping with his boys and friends. One of his greatest achievements was going to Philmont Scout Ranch with his boys. He served as a Boy Scout Assistant Cubmaster and Cubmaster of Pack 21 at Adams School. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 51 at Trinity United Church of Christ and Cubmaster of Pack 5 at St. Peter Catholic School. Cecil was also involved in the biking fundraisers that raised money for the Juvenile Diabetes Association. He was a member and former president of the German Historical Society, and a volunteer ticket taker at QND. Cecil loved all local basketball teams and coached and attended as many games as possible. He also served as a coach for the Quinsippi Soccer League. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their activities. As a proud military veteran, Cecil participated in Great River Honor Flight # 42.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. His favorite player was Bob Gibson. He was also a Miami Dolphins fan.

In addition to his wife, Cecil is survived by:

CHILDREN: Christopher P. (Michelle) Haskins of Quincy, IL ; Chad J. (Jenny) Haskins of Hannibal, MO; and Charles E. (Stephanie) of Mendon, IL.
GRANDCHILDREN: Alexis (fiancé Jesse), Austin, Jordan, Megan, Mallory (Brock), Bailey (Austin), Cora, Elsie, Samuel, and Ellis.
GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Isabella, Jared Jr., Jordan Jr., Charlee, Brynn, Cheyenne, Aurora, Josie, and a baby girl on the way.
SIBLINGS: Marsha (Randy) Bunge, Forrest Jr. (Teri) Haskins, Pam Noble, and sister-in-law Linda Haskins.

Many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law also survive.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew in infancy, Alvie, Jr., his brother Jerry Haskins, and sister Neysa Turpin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Christopher Haskins, Chad Haskins, Charles Haskins, Austin Haskins, Mike Jackson, Brandon Douglas, Brett Douglas, and Jesse Gilmore. Honorary pallbearers will be Jared Dodd, Jr., Jordan Welch, Jr., Samuel Potts, Ellis Haskins, and Rod Douglas. Memorials may be made to Great River Honor Flight or Scouting of America.

    You were a good man Cecil and you raised 3 boys that I consider my brothers. The summer days spending time down at the camp were some great summertime memories! Rest in Peace old man
