William J. Giesing age 87, of Quincy died on Sunday, April 17, 2016 in his home. He was born June 26, 1928 in Quincy, a son of Robert and Leona (Benhoff) Giesing. He married Margaret M. Warmker on September 2, 1950 in Quincy’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she preceded him in death on September 28, 1997.

Mr. Giesing worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1947.

He was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. William was a member of the Retired Postal Carriers and the American Legion Post #37. He loved being outdoors, and for years spent time at the family’s river camp, fishing and boating. He was a talented woodworker, he built his own home and made things for his children and grandchildren. William played in league bowling, and had scored a 300 game. In recent years he also liked playing cards.

Michael) Hunsaker of Camp Point, IL and Phillip (Ellen) Giesing of Elizabeth, CO; His friend, Minnie Jo Glisan of Quincy; Grandchildren: Cassandra (Dustin) White; Christina (Ryan) Woline; Jon (Michaelena) Hunsaker; Andrew (Cheyenne Starman) Hunsaker; April Giesing; Audrey (Wes) Porter; Nate Giesing; Logan and William Giesing;
4 Great-Grandchildren: Paige and Evan Woline, Ivy White and June Porter.
A brother, Richard (Mary Margaret) Giesing of Springfield, IL and a sister, Betty (Frank) Novelli of Melrose Park, IL; nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and a step great-granddaughter also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Robert, John and Don Giesing and a sister, Maureen Giesing.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment at Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Church or to Meals on Wheels.
