William “Bill” Ross Obituary

William “Bill” Ross age 98, of St. Vincent’s Home, Quincy, died on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 11:15 p.m. in the home. Bill was born November 26, 1909 in Quincy, a son of William and Sarah Cassie (Hammond) Ross. He married Mattie Hawkins on January 16, 1992 and she preceded him in death.

Bill retired in 1972 from Electric Wheel where he worked as an assembly man.
He had attended Lincoln Elementary School. Bill served in U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Bill had played in league bowling for many years, he also enjoyed cards and fishing.

Survivors include nieces and nephews:
Lindley Eston and wife Pat of California; Alvin Eston and wife Alphonsa of Las Vegas, NV; Arthur Eston and wife Stella of Beach Park, IL; Viola Eston Suzetta Hall and husband James, Carita Watkins and Margaret Frye all of California; Lillian Aytson and Jennifer Johnson both of Quincy;
a special friend Mary Bradley of Quincy. Also surviving are a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including his great niece and caregiver Cheri Cartmill and a special cousin Virginia Bright both of Quincy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters, Leona Sarah Eston and Lucille Aytson, a niece Virginia Ruff.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Orville B. Jones, Jr. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors to be conducted.
Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of services at the church.
