Wilbur Leon Dillon

WILBUR LEON DILLON, 88, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, Quincy, IL, died on October 8, 2012 in the home. He was formerly a resident of Cahokia, Illinois and Benton, Illinois. Wilbur was born on October 18, 1923 in Sesser, Illinois, a son of Charles Edgar Dillon & Mabel Louise Hubbart Parkinson Dillon. He married Lois Laverne Taylor on June 18, 1948. They later divorced.

Wilbur retired as a supervisor from Crown Zellerbach Container Corporation, St. Louis. He later served as supervisor of the Church of God campground, Benton, Illinois.

Military service:
United States Army in World War II (T/Sgt)
Inducted at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on May 14, 1943.
Discharged at Rockford, Illinois on February 12, 1946.
Served in the 9th Army, 84th Division, known as the Railsplitters as an artilleryman and platoon sergeant.
His unit was active in the Battle of the Bulge and other engagements in Belgium and Germany until the cessation of hostilities.

Active member of the Church of God.

Military Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. in the All Faiths Chapel.
