Walter J. Reed
Walter J. Reed, age 88, of Quincy, died on December 15, 2023 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on August 7, 1935 in Ft. Madison, IA, the son of Frank & Clara (Grothaus) Reed Sr. Walter first married Margie Dues who preceded him in death in 1967. Walter later married Phyllis (Baird) Graddy on June 2, 1968. She survives. Walter was a terminal manager for trucking companies in the Quincy area. He served in the United States Army. Walter was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

CHILDREN: Melody Armstrong (Tad) of Edwardsville, IL; Mark Reed of Quincy; Douglas Reed (Janie) of Quincy; Tom Graddy (Debbie) of Columbia, MO; Walter Scott Reed (Paula) of Quincy and Kim Sparrow (Dan) of Quincy.
GRANDCHILDREN: Ben Armstrong, Beth Duffy (Jack), Ian Thomas (Trisha), Meghan Grimmer (Brian), Shon Stark (Gina), Stephanie Springman (Keith), Chad Smith (Lynndal), Justin Reed (Chelsea), Ryan McNay, Courtney Young (Durkin), Taylor Janus (David), Alex McNay (Abby Blickhan), Claire Leapley (Kody), Danielle Reed (Trey Flesner), Shelby Reed, Abbie Reed, Carly Reed, Natalie Graddy, Nicolas Graddy, Caroline Reed, Marcus Reed, Allison Mickey (Damascus), Emma Sparrow, Jack Sparrow and Reed Sparrow.
SIBLINGS: Eleanor Menke and Frank Reed, Jr.
Numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Walter was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Dawn Smith, a grandson Lucas Sparrow and brothers: Howard, Don, and Moe Reed, a brother Joey Reed in childhood and also a brother Raymond Reed in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in the Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight or to the Horizons Food Pantry. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
