Walter E. “Butch” Burton

Walter E. “Butch” Burton, age 67, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on December 31, 1950 in Quincy the son of Ed & Lil (Hertzel) Burton. He married Stephanie Petersen in 1983 at Grandview Baptist Church. She survives.

After graduated from Quincy High School, Butch signed up to the Army Air Borne Rangers and served in Vietnam. He worked many years in construction and wood working. In his retirement years, he loved wood-working and made furniture such as curio cabinets, cardinal & Cubs plaques for family and friends. Butch was a Green Bay Packers fan and loved his Green Bay Packers Christmas Tree full of Packer ornaments. His biggest passion was his 1957 Chevy Bel Aire with which he won many trophies and awards at various car shows over the years. He honored a fellow veteran whom he never knew by driving his 1957 Chevy in the veteran’s funeral per the wishes of his family.

HIS PARENTS: Ed & Lil Burton
A SON: Shawn (Tonyia) Burton
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Paige and Madison Burton.
THREE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Serenity, Kane and Hadley.
A BROTHER: Archie (Melinda) Burton.
Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in the Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home with military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday morning at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
