Walter C. Sheer
Walter C. Sheer, age 95, of 2816 Elm, formerly of 1732 North 16th St., Quincy died on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Blessing Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on August 7, 1916 in Quincy, a son of Walter B. and Dorothy (Theis) Sheer. Walter married Marietta Gowdy on October 22, 1949 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2010.
Walter worked as a mechanic for Awerkamp Machine Shop retiring after 30 years of service. He was a 1936 graduate of Quincy High School. He served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant during WWII. While in the Army he was a B-17 airplane mechanic. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
He is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Debra Morrison of Quincy, and Mark Sheer of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marietta, a brother Kenneth Sheer, and a sister Dorothy Strader.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery by Rev. Marlin Rempfer. Interment in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home with Military honors. There is no visitation but friends and family are invited to the graveside services. Memorials are suggested to the Honor Flight program. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
My Walts family. I have know him for 38 years, and waited on him for lunch for 12. He was a very kind man and would help anybody he could, never had a bad word to say about anyone, and always had a smile on his face. RIP Walt
