Virginia M. Whittaker

Virginia M. Whittaker, age 85, of 1230 North 25th, died on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 7:40 AM in Sunset Home. She was born on August 28, 1924 in Fowler, IL the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Wiewel) Ohnemus. She married Kenneth Whittaker on May 30, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. He survives. In previous years, Mrs. Whittaker owned and operated a beauty salon out of her home. Virginia was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Francis. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program. She enjoyed playing cards, golf, fishing and most importantly, her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Kenneth, she is also survived by:
FOUR SONS: Daniel Whittaker and his wife Ann of Marcelline, IL; Glenn Whittaker of Quincy; Ron Whittaker and his wife Rosie of Quincy and Roger Whittaker and his wife Sandy also of Quincy
TEN GRANDCHILDREN: Angela Fox; Andrea Michalak and her husband Steve, Wayne Whittaker and his wife Krista; Tim Whittaker and his wife Misti; KJ Whittaker and his wife Julie; Lynne Wichmann and her husband Jeff; Renee Degitz, Rhonda Goodwin; Rochelle Howard and her husband Staven and Shaun Whittaker and his wife Chris.
EIGHTEEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Landon, Nolan, Eric, Neil, Carl, Dalton, Chance, Erika, Bailie, Drew, Ben, Gabe, Taylor, Blake, Maggie, Libby, Tori, and Wesley.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends survive.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter in law Mary Whittaker, 3 brothers: Francis, Pete and Earl Ohnemus and 3 sisters: Laura Peters, Martha Lentz and Florence Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 with a Parish prayer service at 6:00. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus TV Mass for Shut ins or to St. Francis Catholic Church.

    We are so sorry to hear about the death of your Mother. When I was in highschool she helped me a lot with a sewing class I took and I thought a lot of her. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

    We are so saddend by the loss of Ginny. We always enjoyed golfing with you two and seeing you at the knights of columbus. She is another angel in heaven.

    Dan & Glen…couldn’t make it tonight, but wanted to extend our sincere sympathy to you and the rest of your family. Never knew your mom, but she must have been a gem to raise 4 boys who have turned out so well..with the help of your dad, I’m sure.
