Virginia ‘Ginny’ Tobin

Virginia “Ginny” (Browning) Tobin, 90 of Quincy, Illinois died peacefully of natural causes at Sunset Nursing Home in the early morning of January 6, 2021.

Ginny was borne on April 14, 1930 to Irvin R Browning and Viola (Durbeck) Browning in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Highschool in St. Louis and maintained friendships she made at a sorority there, throughout her entire life. She married Walter Claude Tobin on July 2, 1949 in St. Louis Missouri. She and Walter remained married until his death in 1985. She was blessed with two children, Stephen Michael Tobin and Renee Marie Nelson.

Ginny raised her children flexing with a lifestyle consistent with being married to a military husband. She mothered by being an excellent example, demonstrating perseverance, strong loyalty a catholic faith, forgiveness, loyalty and love. She would worry about whether everyone was ok. Ginny loved her neighbors and her friends, especially Steve and “Snookie” Hagood who were like a second family to her.

She loved to travel with her family and friends to far off places. She would know the details of everyone’s family, their children, and grandchildren. Everyone was a friend and they all loved Ginny. Ginny always had a story to tell and loved to visit. You always knew what Ginny was thinking. She could deliver a spicy joke and bring down the house. Ginny enjoyed talking on the phone, walking, going for a ride, flowers, cooking, and her cat, Sweetie Pie.

Ginny was preceded in death by her Husband, Walter. Her sister Patricia (Browning) Ballowe of St. Louis, Mo., and her brother Eugene Browning of Pittsfield, Illinois.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee (Tobin) Nelson and son in law, Steve Nelson of Quincy, Illinois; her son, Stephen Tobin and daughter in law Donna Dobson Tobin of Billings, Montana; grandchildren Benjamin Tobin (Jessica), Matthew Tobin (Christine), Nicholas Tobin; Niece, Mary Ballowe (Cedric Branson); great grandchildren Ava Tobin, Sawyer Tobin and Kasey Reed; countless friends, neighbors and care givers. The family extends their sincere thanks to Ginny’s caregivers at Sunset Home.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Quincy. Memorials are suggested to Homeward Bound or Sunset Home Activities Fund. Services are in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. www.dukerandhaugh.com
