Virginia “Ginny” Riney

Virginia “Ginny” Riney, age 92, of the Illinois Veterans Home, died on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in the Home. She was born on September 19, 1926 in Perryville, MO the daughter of Alto and Ray (Streiler) Thayer. Ginny married Richard “Dick” Riney on April 26, 1947 in Sereno, MO. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2014.
Ginny drove a school bus for the Payson School District for many years until her retirement in the mid 80’s. She and Dick took numerous trips on his Gold Wing motorcycle and delivered boats for Bayview Marine. She also volunteered at the Blessing Hospitality House and always enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and bingo and blackjack at the Illinois Veterans Home. Virginia was quick witted and always made you laugh. She loved her grandchildren and all the time she spent with them.
Ginny is survived by her THREE SONS: Roger (Cheryl) Riney of Quincy, Richard “Rick” (Donna) Riney of Elon, NC, and Marc Riney of Rogers, AR.
SEVEN grandchildren: Christopher (Trysha) Riney; Jennifer White; Paul Riney; Lauren (Max) Czernin; Taylor (Colt) Oade, Madison and Savanna Riney.
Eight great-grandchildren: Lexi, Blake, Leigha and Jacob Riney; Mady and Amelia White; Penny and Oliver Czernin; and another great grandbaby is on the way. One great-great grand-daughter Emmaline Riney; a sister, Janet Geile; and nieces and nephews also survive. There are also 3 step grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister Joan Bauwens.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the All Faiths Chapel, Illinois Veterans Home. Interment in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the All Faiths Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund.

    I will always remember Ginny as always having a big smile. I will miss sharing our bingo table, and the kindness of her and the family.

    We will be in Springfield at the time of visitation & the services. You & your family will be in out thoughts & prayers.
