Virginia Fredericks Steinkamp Steiner, 101, of Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living and previously of 2420 Sterling Avenue, passed away on April 25 2022 at the retirement facility.
Virginia was born on July 16, 1920 in Quincy, the daughter of Carl H. and Freda M. Seiz Fredericks, owners of a dairy farm located on the southeast corner of Twenty-Fourth and Harrison Streets. She graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1938 and married Roger F. Steinkamp on October 31, 1942 at the U.S. Army Air Force Chapel at Kelley Field, San Antonio, Texas. Roger died on August 28, 1962. They had four children.

She remarried on April 28, 2000 to George B. Steiner at St. Peter Catholic Church in Quincy. She was widowed a second time when George died on December 3, 2001.
Virginia worked as a secretary for firms in San Antonio, Colorado Springs and Quincy. She received an Illinois license to sell real estate in 1972 and began a fulfilling late career that lasted for thirty-three years. She worked for Awerkamp and Davis Realtors, Davis and Associates Realtors and in her own brokerage office, which she established in 1998. She graduated from the Realtors Institute and was credentialed as a Certified Residential Specialist. In 1995, she was honored with title of Quincy Realtor of the Year for her outstanding services and contributions to the profession. She retired from her real estate career in 2006.

Her other interests included reading, visual art, travel, bowling, bridge, crosswords and scrabble. She bowled in local leagues for fifteen years, studied art at Quincy College for two years and logged several hours of general aviation pilot lessons at Baldwin Field. She took eight different ocean cruises with family. She wrote poetry and completed an illustrated autobiography. She suffered total blindness from 2016, but enjoyed books for the blind and conversations with friends, family and visitors.

She was deeply gratified by the care she received from the staff at Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living, especially the attention given her by Sister Jackie Sellmeyer, SSND, during the first years of her stay.

She is survived by a son, Kent R. Steinkamp (Linda) of Quincy; one daughter, Judith A. Steinkamp of Quincy; a daughter-in-law, Bette Werneth Steinkamp of High Point, North Carolina; and a sister, Viola F. (Ben) Hamner of Banning, California. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, a son, Rev. Ronald F. Steinkamp; a daughter, Linda Musolino; three brothers and their wives, Robert and Ruth Fredericks, Harvey and Beverley Fredericks, Willis and Rosalind Fredericks and by one great-grandchild, Charlie Rock Canny.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter School or Notre Dame High School. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
