Virginia F. “Ginnie” Schuering
Virginia F. “Ginnie” Schuering, age 102, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in her home. She was born on February 10, 1922, a daughter of Anselm B. and Clara A. (Bockhold) Blickhan.
Virginia married Paul L. Schuering, Sr. on August 28, 1943, in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2009.
Ginnie was a graduate of St. Michael’s School. She worked at her parent’s farm and at the Shoe Factory before her marriage. Ginnie focused on being a wife, mother, and homemaker for many years. She then began working at St. Mary’s Hospital in 1963, as an Obstetrics Technician until her retirement in 1977.
After her retirement, she continued helping others by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and at Good Samaritan Home.
She was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and member of the Sacred Heart League and Community of Catholic Women.
In her free time, Ginnie enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She was an avid card player, she even taught her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to play Thirty-One, Seven Card Gin, and Gin Rummy.
When she found time to relax, she would bake, sew, or read. Ginnie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was always happy to take care of them and enjoyed it when they visited her. Her caring heart and gentle soul will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Survivors include her children: Pam Schuering-LaTour, and Ned Schuering, both of Quincy, IL. Grandchildren: Chantel Schuering, Brent Schuering (Melanie), Nathan Schuering, Holly Meyer, Jeremiah LaTour (Jill Edmunds), and Courtney LaTour.
Great-Grandchildren: Kaitlyn LaTour, Cameran LaTour, Garrett Schuering, Bailey Schuering, Damin Meyer, Emma Meyer, and Logan Meyer.
A daughter-in-law Diane Schuering, of Mahomet, IL Siblings: Bernice Dittmer and John Blickhan (Barb). Many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her son Paul L. Schuering, Jr., brothers Clarence Blickhan, Thomas Blickhan, Paul Blickhan, and Joseph Blickhan (in infancy), and sisters: Rita Blickhan, Dorothy Glisan, and Emma Brueggeman.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 16, 2024, beginning with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Meyer, Celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, March 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh.
Memorials are suggested to K of C TV Mass or Blessed Sacrament School.

We are remembering Ginnie as she walked the halls of St. Mary Hospital leaving her footprints on the St. Mary Hospital legacy.
Her caring heart was there as new lives enter the world.

Cathy and I are saddened to hear about your Mother. You have our deepest sympathy. We pray the God will wrap his loving arms around all of you and grant you peace. We are out of town until after St Patrick’s Day.
