Virgil D. Meyer

Virgil D. Meyer age 94, of Good Samaritan Home, Quincy formerly of 641 Jackson Street died on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the home. Virgil was born July 10, 1922 in Fowler, IL a son of George and Leona (Barry) Meyer and he was the last surviving of their six children. He married Carlene Klemme on June 1, 1946 in Quincy’s St. Mary Catholic Church, she preceded him in death on February 4, 1985.

Virgil began working in 1946 for Electric Wheel as press operator and later as a die maker. He retired from the company in 1982.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Virgil was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.

Survivors include his five children: Roger Meyer and his wife Judy; Stephen Meyer and his wife Marilyn; Patricia Thomas and her husband Robert all of Quincy; Michael Meyer and his wife Paula of Willow Springs, MO and Barbara Truitt of Quincy. There are 17 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also surviving.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 brothers, Wilbur (Gladys) Meyer; Robert (Frances) Meyer; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Lawrence) Mock; Rosella (Albert) Mock; Jeanette (Frederick) Tappe; and a son-in-law, Lee Truitt, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Monsignor Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Parish or to Good Samaritan Home for the Activities Fund at Southern Court.
