Vernita J. Simmons, age 77, of Camp Point, IL, died on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on October 19, 1944 in Pearl, IL the daughter of Keyes and Helen (Thomas) Lane. She married Raymond Simmons in 1976. He preceded her in death in 1987. Vernita worked as a CNA and then later as a security guard at Gardner Denver.

Vernita liked gardening and her dog, ‘Gizmo’.

She is survived by:
A DAUGHTER: Vanessa Eggen of Camp Point
GRANDCHILDREN: Roamin Anderson and Cody Anderson (Emily)
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Arlene, Layla, Cory, Homer, Emilia and Booker.
SIBLINGS: Anita Chatfield (Dean) and Thomas Lane (Joann Harris)
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Vernita was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Marvin McEuen and siblings: Everett Lane and Donna German.

Cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services are planned at this time. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
