Verna Toombs

Verna E. Toombs, age 98, of Quincy, died on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in her home. Verna was born on June 18, 1916 in Quincy, the daughter of John and Edna (Klemme) Hoffman. She married Harry B. Toombs on January 2, 1945. He preceded in death on July 3, 1987.

Verna retired from the DMV of the State of Rhode Island. She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Connie Havens of Quincy and Karen Degnan of Cranston, Rhode Island; six grandchildren: Rob Havens, Kari Havens, Edward (Deborah) Degnan, Matthew (Megan) Degnan, Mary (Greg) Martin and Elizabeth (John) Damato: twelve great-grand children and one sister, Elaine Martin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, John Hoffman and one sister, Rita Gooding.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE.

    I had the pleasure of knowing Verna since childhood. I know her goodness lives on in my dearest friend, Mary (Degnan) Martin. Heartfelt condolences to her lovely family.
