Verda Klues

Verda M. Klues , 94, of Quincy,Illinois, passed away Sunday morning March 20th at Sunset Home 418 Washington in Quincy.

Mrs. Klues was born February 5, 1922 in Quincy. She was the daughter of John and Myrtle Fries. She married Roy H. Klues on October 20, 1943. They had two children , Kathleen Ann and John ( Jack) Martin Klues. Her husband died June 10, 2012.

She was a 1939 graduate of Quincy Senior High School and studied accounting and record keeping at Gem City Business School. Mrs. Klues worked for the Bueter Baking Company in such a capacity for 8 years upon completing her formal education.

After an extended hiatus from bookkeeping to homemaker, Mrs. Klues resumed working in the office of Catholic Boys High School (now Quincy Notre Dame) from 1974-1978.

Mrs. Klues was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed Quincy Notre Dame High School athletics her entire adult life. In 1999, QND honored Mr. and Mrs. Klues as the longest running season ticket holders in school history for girls and boys basketball. Her family created the “Raider Pride” Scholarship program in 2001 which provides annual monetary awards to male and female graduating students based upon their exceptional extracurricular participation and school spirit.

She also closely followed the St Louis Cardinal baseball organization since childhood and attended dozens of games in person , including two of their World Series appearances.

Mrs. Klues , along with her husband, proved themselves to be unselfish and tireless volunteer leaders for multiple charitable causes , especially within their parish churches St. Mary ( now Blessed Sacrament) , St Peters, and Quincy Notre Dame High School.

Survivors include her son, Jack, and his wife Beth of Arlington Heights, Illinois, two grandchildren, Jordan and wife Renee of Arlington Heights, and Corinn of Scottsdale ,Arizona. She has one great grandson, Carter , and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Klues was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Kathleen, and siblings Andrew Fries and Virginia Hutmacher.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 9:30 am in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Quincy Notre Dame High School Development Fund.
