Vera Elizabeth Gengenbacher

Vera Elizabeth Gengenbacher, age 97, of the St. Vincent Home, formerly of 2523 Lind, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in the Home. She was born on February 21, 1913 in Quincy, the daughter of Peter J. and Emma (Reis) Peters. She married Edward Gengenbacher on April 29, 1931 in the Church of St. Peter. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1993. Vera was a homemaker and a cook at St. Dominic School until her retirement in 1976. She was a longtime and active member of St. Francis Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Francis, the Quilters Club, and the Tuesday Club of the Church. Vera was also a 50+ year member of the Secular Franciscans.

She is survived by:
FIVE CHILDREN: Shirley Dingerson of Fountain, CO; Kenneth Gengenbacher and his wife Linda of Boseman, MT; Gerald Gengenbacher and his wife Evelyn of Quincy; Richard Gengenbacher and his wife Mary Lou of Quincy and Robert Gengenbacher and his wife Donna of Ft. Madison, IA.

TWENTY FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Steven King, David King and his wife Roseanne, Mary Jo DeMichael and her husband Tony, Robin Cockerman, Tom Dingerson, Bruce Dingerson and his wife Leigh, Tina Smith and her husband Richard; Derek Gengenbacher and his wife Lacey; Amanda Gengenbacher, Tammi Burke and her husband Rick; Edward Gengenbacher and his wife Patti, Sherri Finlayson and her husband Andrew, Rick Gengenbacher and his wife Becky, Russ Gengenbacher and his wife Lori, Janet Smith and her husband Scott, Randy Gengenbacher and his wife Michelle, Ron Gengenbacher, Joy Requet and her husband Adam, and Rob Gengenbacher and his wife Liz, Stacey Gengenbacher, Christa Hollister and her husband Pat, Nikki Ireland, Keri Hartman and her husband Bruce, Karyl Weiland and her husband Steven and Becky Gengenbacher.
48 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Vera was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lorene Sims, a son-in-law: Bob King, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home with a Secular Franciscan service at 5:30 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, or to the Secular Franciscan Order.
