Vera D. Aiken

Vera D. Aiken, 98, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away on September 28, 2023, in Quincy. She was born on July 31, 1925, in Quincy, the daughter of the late Edward and Erma (Jahn) Huechteman. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband Charles, and son-in-law Bobby Abell.

Vera graduated from Quincy Senior High School and went on to work at Illinois Bell and Browers. She dedicated many years to her career, leaving a lasting impact on those she worked with.

Vera is survived by her loving daughters, Janice Abell (Bobby Abell) and Joyce Reed (James Reed). She was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren: Missy Reed (Teh Ghosh), Jenny Reed, and Katie Winship (Scott Winship). Vera also adored her two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Rebecca Winship. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Huechteman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Vera found solace and community in her faith and attended of the Assembly of God Church. Her spirituality was an important aspect of her life.

In her free time, Vera enjoyed playing cards, especially Bunko and Bingo. She also enjoyed cooking. She found joy in friendly competition and spending time with loved ones.

Vera will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love, family, and dedication will be cherished by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 1:30 PM in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:30 until the time of the services at 1:30. Memorials may be made to the great-grandchildren’s educational fund. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
