Timothy Schmelzle
Timothy J. “Tim” Schmelzle age 54 of Springfield, IL died on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in the home of his sister in Quincy.
Tim was born June 23, 1969, in Quincy, a son of Elgar and Patricia (Durbin) Schmelzle. Tim was a graduate of Lamphier High School in Springfield, IL. He graduated from Northern Colorado University in Greeley, CO and later earned his master’s degree in finance from the University of Illinois in Champaign.
Professionally, he had worked as a financial advisor.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm, receiving the National Defense Medal with two Bronze Stars.
Tim will be remembered for his modesty, and for being a smart, kind, and gentle man. He was loyal to those that were closest to him, he loved them and let them know it.
Survivors include his sister, Renee Mitchell and her husband Tim of Quincy; a brother Bill Schmelzle and his wife Anastacia of Canton, MO. His best friend, Cheng Wang of California and his life-long best friend, Rich Cawley of Neosho, MO. An aunt, Alicia (Kenny) Blewett of Liberty, IL; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:30 at the Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail and the American Legion Post #37 Honors Detail. A memorial visitatio Service arrangements are pending with Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
