Thora “Toby” Jones, age 86, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, TN. Toby was born on September 12, 1929 on a farm near Quincy, a daughter of Fred & Mary Ida (Meyer) Werner. She married Kenneth Jones on September 3, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1999.

When Kenny was still living, Toby spent many a night praying for his safe return – he was an over-the-road truck driver for 40 years and drove in all kinds of weather. Kenny and Toby together made over seven thousand rosaries for the rosary club.

She was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School. She worked at the Hosiery Mill, Motorola, Hills Department Store, Ole Time Pottery in Tennessee and in later years Taco Bell.

Toby loved to sing and would wake up in the morning singing and sing all day long. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church where she sang in the funeral choir, the regular choir and also sang at St. John the Baptist Church before it closed. She was a member of the Secular Franciscans and made her Cursillo in December 1999. She belonged to Catholic Charities and worked at the thrift store at 12th & Chestnut.

Toby loved the water exercise class, her garden and flowers.

She is survived by:
ONE SON, Michael Jones and his wife Claudette of Goodlettsville, TN;
TWO DAUGHTERS, Carla Murphy and her husband Wade of Nashville, TN and Darla Schnabel and her husband Keith of Geneseo , IL;
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN, Anna Murphy, Kenny Murphy, Teddy Murphy, MaryRuth Murphy and Adam Schnabel;
ONE BROTHER, Fritz Werner of Colorado Spring, CO;
Many nieces, nephews and other family also survive.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald & George Werner and a sister, Fleta Henderson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Church or the Diabetes Association.
